The FINANCIAL — On February 3, Bali Padda, President and CEO of the LEGO Group, Ib Kristensen, the mayor of Billund, Denmark, and Claus Flyger Pejstrup, Senior Vice President, and responsible for the LEGO Group Headquarters, jointly broke the ground on one of the largest LEGO construction projects in Billund, Denmark, the home and headquarters of the LEGO Group.
Work on the office complex ‘LEGO Campus’, which was announced in July 2016, is expected to take four years, with the first employees moving in during 2019. When fully completed, the complex will have room for up to 2,000 employees and include 52,000 m2 of office space surrounded by a public park, according to LEGO.
Bali Padda, President and CEO of the LEGO Group said:
“The project represents an important step in our growth journey and makes room for future growth in Billund. It is an expression of our future, but also keeps us firmly connected with our heritage in Billund, where carpenter Ole Kirk Kristiansen founded our company 85 years ago. The LEGO employees in Billund all contribute to our efforts to bring great play experiences to children all over the world, and that is why our continued investment is both natural and important to our company.”
Ib Kristensen, Mayor of Billund said:
”The investments in LEGO House and LEGO Campus underlines that the LEGO Group owner family and the LEGO Group are closely connected with Billund. For the municipality, it is a confirmation that Billund today – as 85 years ago – remains the headquarters of the LEGO Group. We take great pride in that. The pride is amplified when seeing that part of this project includes a public park, where citizens as well as the 1.5 million visitors annually to Billund can experience one of the world’s most creative companies at close hand.”
Currently, more than 4,000 LEGO employees of 35 nationalities work in Denmark covering a broad range of functions from manufacturing to product development. In recent years, the number of employees in Billund has increased, and the new office building both creates more workspace and supports the continuing global growth.
Claus Flyger Pejstrup, Senior Vice President, and responsible for the LEGO Group Headquarters in Denmark, said:
”We are also creating a space for the community that reflects our values of creativity, caring and play. In addition, a significant part of the new building will be reserved for what will be called ‘LEGO People House’. Here, LEGO employees from all over Billund as well as colleagues from abroad travelling to the headquarters can gather, be creative, and physically active together, both during and outside working hours. We hope that People House will be a melting pot for the many versions of our global LEGO culture.”
