The FINANCIAL — The US Government through the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) donated All-Terrain- Vehicles to the MoIA Border Police of Georgia. The donation aims to enhance Border Management and Protection Capabilities. Under the framework of the DTRA support projects, the Georgian Border Guards will be acquainted with operational capabilities of ATVs and their maintenance through the trainings. DTRA supports several U.S. Embassy Tbilisi objectives such as Euro-Atlantic Integration.
Georgian border guards have been provided with 20 modern Argo all-terrain vehicles (ATV) thanks to financial support from the US Defense and Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA). Georgian border guards will undergo training in the coming days, during which they will learn to operate the vehicles. The DTRA is implementing a number of projects with the Georgian Border Police to support the development of the country’s land and maritime border control, agenda.ge reported.
Mr. Temur Kekelidze, the Head of the Border Police of Georgia, together with Major. Analise Hunter, DTRA Deputy Chief have been introduced to the operational charactersitcs of the newly provided vehicles.
During the handing over ceremony, Mr. Kekelidze, expressed his gratitude towards the donor organization for their contributions intended to foster GBP’s capabilities.
Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) supports several U.S. Embassy Tbilisi objectives such as Euro-Atlantic Integration, International Cooperation, and Peace and Security measures. Primary DTRA Programs active in Georgia are the Cooperative Threat Reduction (CTR) Biological Threat Reduction Program (BTRP), the Weapons of Mass Destruction Proliferation Prevention Program (WMD PPP), the International Counterproliferation Program (ICP), and Chemical Biological Radiological Nuclear (CBRN) Consequence Management.
In March of 2020, Along with highly skilled medical professionals, Georgia’s chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) defense teams have been trained and fully equipped through the U.S. Defense Threat Reduction Agency assistance programs.
Earlier this month, International Organization for Migration (IOM) with the financial assistance of European Union handed over modern equipment for document inspection to the Patrol Police Department. The equipment provided to the Patrol Police Department of the MIA complies with international standards and will assist Patrol Police officers in thorough examination of the documents and determination of their authenticity. IOM have donated 60 pieces of advanced border management equipment to the MIA. This included document inspection equipment, enabling passport control officers at key border crossing points in Georgia to do a quick check of the security features of passports and other travel documents.
