The FINANCIAL — In the frame of Together in the 21st Century initiative, on December 3 Art Hall celebrated the day of disabled people by presenting the play Hellados at the Michel Tumanishvili Theater. The General Sponsor of the charity play initiative performed for different kinds of asylums and integrated schools was Wissol Petroleum Georgia.
The annual observance of the International Day of Disabled Persons, 3 December, aims to promote an understanding of disability issues and mobilize support for the dignity, rights and well-being of persons with disabilities. It also seeks to increase awareness of gains to be derived from the integration of persons with disabilities in every aspect of political, social, economic and cultural life. The theme of the day is based on the goal of full and equal enjoyment of human rights and participation in society by persons with disabilities, established by the World Programme of Action concerning Disabled Persons, adopted by the General Assembly in 1982.
Wissol – the first member of the Art Hall Council of Trustees invites the business community to get involved in the charity action, the reason being to establish an integrated youth centre including a theatrical studio, TV-radio and press journalistic groups, and singing and choreographic unions.
“Involvement of the business community in the initiative will contribute much to the establishment of a fully democratic society in the country,” declared Samson Pkhakadze, Chairman of the Wissol Board of Directors.
Art Hall has been showing an experimental performance of Nodar Dumbadze’s Hellados since June 1. The aim of the project is the assistance of the creative skills of the disabled. The cast of the play includes: Goga Pipinashvili, Nana Shonia, the directors- Lela Gvarishvili, Sandro Gaballia, in Design- Shota Glurjidze, music by- Roma Rtskhiladze, and photo session- Jury Mechitov and Maia Deisadze.
The main goal of the Art Hall youth studio and foundation is to promote an integrated system of upbringing and education for physically and mentally challenged children. Art Hall was established in 1996 and has ever since been giving a chance for kids to acquire skills in the arts and do many useful and interesting things together.
The play tells the story of a boy and is at the same time the story of patriotism, all delivered in a comprehensive way. It describes a Greek immigrant who having grown up in Sukhumi, Abkhazia, with a tattoo of Hellados on his chest, close to the heart, when asked by a friend what it was about, responded “The homeland is deeper than that, the homeland is in the heart.”
