The FINANCIAL — On 18 February a new oil terminal was officially launched in Samtredia, Western Georgia. The management says that Wissol has invested several million in the terminal which can accommodate 32 million litres of petrol, diesel and jet fuel.
According to Wissol new terminal is the biggest land terminal in Georgia and will emerge as a key fuel storage facility in Western Georgia. It can store half the amount of oil products Georgia consumes monthly.
“The terminal allows us to satisfy the demand for oil products in Western Georgia and we are happy to supply any of our products to any fuel station in the region. Local corporate customers can now also avail themselves of our products at a more acceptable price, considering reduced logistics costs. The terminal has Italian equipment, which is a step forward in the modernization of the sector,” says Samson Pkhakadze, Head of Wissol Supervisory Board.
According to Wissol Petroleum Georgia, Wissol holds a 25% share of the oil market in Georgia and is thereby the market leader.
According to Rusudan Kbilashvili, PR Specialist of J.S.C. Wissol Petroleum Georgia, the investments made in the new terminal will further enhance Wissol’s competitiveness and position in the market. As oil prices on the global markets remain volatile, the terminal will allow Wissol to regulate local fuel prices.
“At this time Wissol already has three oil terminals, two in Tbilisi; on the Lilo premises and Yumashev Street, and a third being the Samtredia terminal. The Lilo terminal is an oil storage facility equipped with modern standards. It has an oil storage reservoir park where 10 million litre reservoirs are located. The terminal at Yumashev Street can accommodate 25 million litres of fuel,” Kbilashvili declared to The FINANCIAL.
According to Wissol Petroleum Georgia, the reservoirs located at oil terminals have independent pipeline systems for reception and dispatch, as well as oil dispatching pumps. The receiving railway dead-end for the oil rail-trucks is capable of simultaneously offloading and loading on 800 tonnes of different products. Oil terminals have reception and dispatching pumping stations and oil-filtering facilities. The oil product dispatching platform is considered for a simultaneous service of 8 rail-trucks. The dispatching of oil products is carried out using oil-meters and its weight is double-checked with 60 tonnes-capacity auto-scales.
“The safety of the oil terminals is insured by a check point and special security officers. Oil terminals are equipped with a modern technology lab for determination of the full content and quality of oil products (gasoline, diesel fuel, jet fuel, lubricants, etc.),” Kbilashvili said.
