With the support of Beeline, Georgia joins the largest in the world annual event of creating mobile games Global Game Jam for yet another year. A 48-hour hackathon was held on January 28-30 at the Tbilisi Moxi Hotel, while simultaneously the global event took place in more than 600 locations in more than 100 countries around the world and brought together thousands of contestants. The purpose of the hackathon is to facilitate the introduction of innovative ideas, help participants acquire new skills, and encourage networking.
Participation in the Global Game Jam is free and open to anyone who is 18 years of age or older and has knowledge, experience, or interest in mobile and board games development, design, music, art, or any other field/subject that is important for creating a game. This year, about 50 participants passed the qualifying round of the hackathon. On the first day of the event, they were introduced to the global and local topics of the Global Game Jam event to create games, which would be submitted to the jury within the next two days.
Within 48 hours, contestants had the opportunity to work with up to 10 competent mentors, receive recommendations, and refine their game. The event was competitive and educational – hackathon participants attended various lectures and seminars on innovations and experiences in the gaming industry.
At the end of the Global Game Jam, the participating teams presented games created on global and local topics to 8 members of the jury. The contestants were given various gifts from partners of the event. The winner received the main prize – 5000 GEL and the opportunity to participate in the global competition.
