The FINANCIAL — The crème de la crème of Germany’s movie industry met for the 34th time at Munich’s Bayerischer Hof on January 19, 2007.
German blockbusters like Perfume were celebrated there with a glittering formal ball. The Audi VIP shuttle service made up of a fleet of 20 exclusively equipped Audi A8 models ensured that the national and international movie stars would make a glamorous entrance. It fitted perfectly with the German Film Ball, where the top personalities from film, business and show business met. Famous guests including Til Schweiger, Moritz Bleibtreu, Mario Adorf, Doris Dörrie, Veronica Ferres and Ornella Muti came together at the most important event in the German film scene.
Through the sponsorship agreement concluded in 2006, Audi indirectly supports the non-profit foundation to support needy film artists (Deutsche Filmkünstler-Nothilfe), for which the German Film Ball is traditionally held. Along with the net receipts, all income from a charity casino goes to a benefit fund for film workers in need.
Audi began making cars available to the film industry 15 years ago. In recent years, the Ingolstadt-based maker of premium cars intensified its support of international film through a partnership with Constantin Film AG and various product placements in Hollywood.
The next Hollywood project, Iron Man, is already in the production stage. In the filming of the Marvel Comics story, the technically inclined hero, Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.), drives an Audi R8. The female lead is played by Gwyneth Paltrow, who drives an Audi S5 in the movie. The film will open internationally in cinemas in May 2008.
In summer 2006, Lois Lane drove an Audi A3 through the streets of Metropolis in Superman Returns. Jason Statham steered an indestructible Audi A8 through a South Florida landscape in 2005’s Transporter 2 – The Mission. And for the 2004 event movie, I, Robot, Audi built the futuristic Audi RSQ sport coupe as a co-star for hero Will Smith, who played Detective Spooner.
Prior to that, the brand with the four rings played leading automotive roles in Reese Witherspoon’s Legally Blonde 2 (2003), About a Boy with Hugh Grant (2002), The Mothman Prophecies with Richard Gere (2002), Mission Impossible II with Tom Cruise (2000), The Insider with Russell Crowe (1999) and John Frankenheimer’s action classic, Ronin, with Jean Reno and Robert De Niro (1998).
