The FINANCIAL — Aston University has introduced an innovative new cashless scheme to make buying food and drink on campus quicker, safer and more convenient.
According to The Aston University, the University has launched a Touch Pay scheme that allows students’ ID cards to be ‘topped up’ over the internet and used in outlets across campus.
The scheme was introduced with the initial aim of removing the need for carrying cash. It now hopes that it will also rest the minds of parents who are worried their children may not be eating properly while at University.
The scheme has been developed to be almost 100% paper free in support of the University’s green commitments, as all registration, account management and balance top ups are done online, with no paper based applications. All Aston students are pre loaded into the Touch Pay system, so all they need to do is activate their account online.
Paul Bunce, marketing manager at Aston University Catering Services has been heavily involved in the introduction of the scheme having project managed the Touch Pay scheme and is particularly proud of its initial success.
The scheme has been developed in a successful partnership with the University’s Catering Services, Information Systems Aston and the University’s finance department in conjunction with VMC Ltd who have extensive experience in similar smart card solutions.
