The FINANCIAL — Today’s rapidly changing world creates, along with opportunities, new threats and challenges and the Georgian Government’s foreign policy is aimed at overcoming the challenges and using the opportunities to maximum extent – Georgian Vice Premier, Foreign Minister Mikheil Janelidze is quoted as saying when speaking at the Ambassadorial Meeting 2017 in Tbilisi.
According to him, the currently existing challenges greatly affect the South Caucasus and Black Sea regions, including Russia’s steps towards annexation of Georgia’s occupied regions. “Unresolved conflicts in the region leave in place the threat that forceful methods may be used for the restoration/expansion of the spheres of influence”.
“The process of actual annexation of the Abkhazia and Tskhinvali regions by Russia represents the main challenge for Georgia’s external policy. The difficult security, humanitarian and human rights situation in the occupied territories is also the greatest challenge facing Georgia and regional stability as a whole” – the Minister said.
Mikheil Janelidze highlighted the economic and geo-political potential of the South Caucasus saying that Georgia being at the leading edge of regional development plays an exceedingly important role in this process, according to MFA of Georgia.
He thanked Georgian diplomats for participation in the meeting underlining that an annual meeting of ambassadors is a very good practice for improving coordination within the diplomatic system and for discussions between members of the government, parliamentarians, representatives of business and civil communities.
Annual gathering of Heads of Georgian Diplomatic Missions abroad -“Result-Oriented Diplomacy in Turbulent Environment” was officially opened today and will last for 4 days.
