The FINANCIAL — Shepherds Association of Georgia (SAG) supports the international conference Georgia Agro Forum 2015, to be held on November 19 in ExpoGeorgia, Tbilisi, by APK-Inform.
The association takes care for the advertising and exporting of Georgian wool. The main exporter country is Turkey. Since 2011, the association takes part in the restoration of the livestock moving roads as the invited experts, in the government initiated project. Since 2011, the association advertises the Georgian wool in the prestigious journals and web-sites, like “Wool Trade International” and “WoolNews.net”. The result of that, there are contacts/negotiations with different wool producer companies from around the world who are willing to buy Georgian wool.
The association was founded in 2010 and its main goal is to develop Georgian sheep sector, according to APK-Inform.
There are about 200 members of sheep breeders and shepherds in the association. The Head of association, Beka Gonashvili, has been exporting sheep since 2009. It is obvious to state that he opened the world market for the Georgian sheep. After that time, Georgia has exported up to $100 million sheep, roughly $ 15 million per year. Over this time, Georgia exported sheep to the following countries: Azerbaijan, Armenia, Lebanon, Libya, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Iran, Israel, the UAE, Jordan and Syria.
