The FINANCIAL — Georgian Foreign Minister Mikheil Janelidze held a meeting with European Commissioner for European Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn.
The sides discussed important issues and priorities relating to bilateral co-operation between Georgia and the European Union, according to MFA of Georgia.
The European Commissioner congratulated Georgia on the launch of visa-free travel with the EU, which Georgian citizens have already started to benefit from. The sides highlighted the need to achieve further tangible results in the process of rapprochement with the European Union. The European Commissioner positively appraised the Georgian government’s efforts in establishing European standards and norms under the Association Agreement.
Special attention was paid to the preparation of the fifth summit of Eastern Partnership scheduled to be held in Brussels, on 24 November. The sides exchanged views over Georgia’s expectations with respect to the Summit. The Minister expressed the hope that the summit will be oriented towards the future and will set forth plans and initiatives for further integration with the EU. The sides considered the possibility of opening a European school in Georgia – a project of regional importance which will contribute to the professional development of staff for all the six countries of the Eastern Partnership.
