The FINANCIAL — British Airways has compiled its ‘Top 100 Films that Inspire Travel’, to mark the launch of its pop up film event – Silent Picturehouse, according to the British Airways. It includes titles nominated by stars including Gwyneth Paltrow, Orlando Bloom, Professor Brian Cox and Colin Firth.
Silent Picturehouse will show travel inspired films in the evening, and children’s movies by day, using Sennheiser headsets to bring the in-flight experience to life.
Nearly 40 per cent of us have been influenced to travel by a film, found British Airways in a recent survey of 2,000 people. Adventure drama ‘The Beach’ was named the most inspiring movie overall, men nominated ‘The Hangover’ as their number one choice, and the over 45s voted for romantic comedy ‘Shirley Valentine’.
The Top 100 list includes a number of titles that inspired celebrities, and those in the industry to travel, as the following exclusive quotes reveal…
“Whenever I see ‘Dirty Rotten Scoundrels’, a total comedy classic, I get the urge to feel the breeze of the south of France in the summer!” said Gwyneth Paltrow, Actress.
“I cherished my time filming ‘Lord of the Rings’ in New Zealand – it’s the most beautiful, magical place with great hospitality. I love places that are completely cut off from everything – where I can relax and enjoy the simplicity of nature,” said Orlando Bloom, Actor.
“One of my favourite films is ‘Breakfast at Tiffany’s’. Released in the year I was born, it is an exotic and glamorous snapshot of that time. I love the views and the feel of the city the film gives us, from the Brownstones on the East Side, the splendour of Fifth Avenue to the truly unique and stunning Central Park. When I first visited in the 1980s the city didn’t disappoint, and I still get that same excitement when I arrive in New York today,” said Amanda Berry, Chief Executive of BAFTA.
The list of films showing at British Airways Silent Picturehouse include; Jaws, Top Gun, Skyfall, The Beach and a Fans’ Choice from; The Exotic Marigold Hotel, Slumdog Millionaire, Casablanca, Sleepless in Seattle and Into the Wild, according to the British Airways.
To celebrate the upcoming release of Disney’s Planes the venue transforms into Silent Picturehouse Kids during the day, showing, Disney films including; Up, Cars 2, Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland, Oz the Great and Powerful, The Muppets and a sneak peak of Planes. Silent Picturehouse will be held in a dramatic setting, complete with movie memorabilia and travel artefacts to enrich the viewing experience, according to the British Airways.
