The FINANCIAL — Volkswagen China Passenger Cars Brand ended2016 on a record high. 2.997 million vehicles were delivered to customersin Mainland China, some 370,000 more than in 2015, equating to a yearon-year growth of 14.1%.
Both joint ventures, FAW-Volkswagen and SAICVOLKSWAGEN, performed well to maintain market leadership for theVolkswagen Brand. Stephan Wöllenstein, CEO of Volkswagen ChinaPassenger Cars Brand: “With an attractive line-up, the Volkswagen Brandachieved record China sales. We see good prospects for further growth in2017, and will bring more choice to customers with the introduction ofanother 11 models and derivatives. We expect Volkswagen to be the firstsingle brand to sell over 3 million cars in one year in Mainland China.”
SUVs and MPVs continue to be the drivers for market growth. TheVolkswagen Brand is committed to expanding its SUV line-up to 10 modelsin China until 2020. 2017 will see the market launch of the much-fetedTeramont and all-new Tiguan L. “SAIC VOLKSWAGEN’s Teramont andTiguan L are expected to make a big impact, as is FAW-Volkswagen’slifestyle-oriented crossover C-TREK in its first full year of deliveries,” saidWöllenstein. “With the Golf Sportsvan and Touran L, we have strongofferings in the MPV segment, both having already shown promisingresults in 2016.”
Iconic sedan models, like THE NEXT GENERATION MAGOTAN, are expectedto continue on an upward trajectory during 2017, as is the laudedPHIDEON, the new premium class saloon, launched in October 2016. Aspart of Volkswagen Brand’s new energy vehicle (NEV) offensive, thePHIDEON GTE will be revealed later in the year, according to Volkswagen.
As Volkswagen Brand continues to transform itself into the NewVolkswagen, 2017 will also see the launch of a dedicated VolkswagenDigital Services Brand in China.
