The FINANCIAL — President of Georgia, H.E. Giorgi Margvelashvili has addressed NATO Georgia Public Diplomacy Forum and discussed Georgia’s preparation for the upcoming NATO Summit, security challenges facing Georgia, and strategic importance of NATO’s involvement in the region.
President Margvelashvili has assessed the forum as a strong and clear response to the current propaganda against the common democratic values of NATO and Georgia.
“This gathering is crucial as it takes place in a very challenging environment, in the context of a complex geopolitical confrontation and ongoing propaganda against the Alliance, against the values that Georgia fully supports and that determine success and progress of Georgia’s prospective integration into the Alliance.
Why are Georgians willing to join NATO and why are they successful on the path of integration? First of all, we share the values of the NATO member countries, namely the values of freedom, democracy and open society,” President Margvelashvili said.
As he further noted, NATO is a successful military alliance that has achieved ideals of Sun Tzu and won the Cold War without fighting.
In his address President Margvelashvili has highlighted Russia’s continuous attempts to instigate the Cold War policy, according to the Administration of the President of Georgia.
“We are facing a difficult situation today, as Russia has declared the Cold War policy. We find this policy extremely alarming. We share the values of NATO in terms of strengthening and unifying the West to confront this policy. The Cold War was not a confrontation between the two alliances, but it was going on in different places, different parts of the globe, in the form of the so-called proxy wars,” President Margvelashvili added.
He has also discussed the upcoming NATO Summit and Georgia’s integration process that requires further efforts.
“We hope that Georgia’s efforts, progress and commitment will adequately be reflected at the upcoming Summit,” President Margvelashvili concluded.
Experts from the NATO member and non-member countries, representatives of the US, Great Britain, Czech Republic, Finland, Sweden, Russia and Ukraine have also participated in the Forum.
