The FINANCIAL — Yesterday on September 15, Georgian Minister Vakhtang Gomelauri held a meeting where he hosted the Director-General of Spanish Civil Guard Maria Gámez Gámez. The meeting where parties discussed bilateral cooperation, work is done by police attaches of the two countries as well as the future plans, was held in Tbilisi. Representatives of the Civil Guard of the Ministry of Interior of the Kingdom of Spain visited the Forensic-Criminalistics Department.
In frames of the visit, Georgian Deputy Interior Minister Vladimer Bortsvadze and chief of the Spanish Civil Guard signed a memorandum of understanding to establish a Joint Analysis Team, in order to strengthen bilateral cooperation in combating organized crime. The Spanish Civil Guard reported following the meeting that the Team, with access to the information of both agencies, will focus on fighting transnational organized crime, affecting both Georgia and Spain, in areas of drug, vehicle, arms, and human trafficking, as well as illegal immigration, cyber-crime and crimes against property, civil.ge reported.
The Joint Analysis Team will be created as a functional body that will develop its work following the principles of maximum speed and flexibility of the procedures, based on the knowledge that both bodies have. The Director-General has highlighted the importance of international cooperation in a globalized world where organized crime affects all countries and, therefore, effectiveness in their fight cannot be individual to each territory but rather shared. The agreement establishes that the Team will be, fundamentally, a direct means of exchanging information and quickly activating the operational devices in the territory of the States that sign said collaboration. The activity of the Joint Analysis Team may be completed with the existing police collaboration and information exchange instruments between the two countries, mainly the Interior Attaché / Liaison Officers. Likewise, the Team will meet to follow up on the activities once a year, alternately in each country, and in extraordinary meetings when necessary, according to the Spanish Civil Guard.
María Gámez has affirmed that the Civil Guard collaborates with many countries in the world and the results are very positive. So, that work will continue in this line. She also has thanked the Georgian authorities for their willingness to collaborate with the Civil Guard, which has already been working and has formalized today with this signature. She added that she is absolutely convinced that it will bear excellent results for the benefit of the citizens of both countries.
Representatives of the Civil Guard of the Ministry of Interior of the Kingdom of Spain visited the Forensic-Criminalistics Department. Within the frames of the official visit to Georgia the Director-General of the Civil Guard – Maria Gamez Gamez, the Civil Guard Police Attache in Turkey – Antonio Miguel Doblas Jimenez, and the Head of International Cooperation Department of the Civil Guard – Jose Antonio Mellado Valverde visited the Forensic-Criminalistics Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The guests got acquainted with the specifics of the work of the Department and implemented projects. Also, they had a tour around the DNA laboratory, various laboratories for an examination of drugs and pharmaceuticals, as well as laboratories for ballistic, dactyloscopic, habitoscopic, photo-video, and computer-technical examination.
It is also noteworthy that in May 2020 it was announced that Georgia would host the ministerial of the United Nations World Tourism Organization on the Future Prospects of Tourism Industry. Georgia will host the 112th session of the executive council of the UNWTO on September 15-17, in Tbilisi. The program will start with tours of old Tbilisi on September 15. The official opening ceremony will be held on September 16, which will be followed by the executive council sessions, and on September 17, a discussion of the investment climate will take place after which the delegation will go to Tsinandali, in the Kakheti region.
